Cinema Dates, Icy Walks & “January” Cake

This weekend started with miserable weather and Scrabble. I made some hot chocolate and we went into hibernation mode for the rest of the day šŸ™‚ I always seem to feel less motivated to write when Christmas ends so I’ve been reading a lot instead and reading by candlelight has become my favourite evening pastime (when it isn’t interrupted by my kids’ frequent awakenings!)

On Saturday, we went to the cinema to see Clifford the Big Red Dog. We hadn’t been to the cinema for months so the girls were really excited when I told them and we got tickets for a good price šŸ™‚ I brought snacks with us and the girls worked their way through crisps, popcorn, sweets, chocolate and still claimed they were hungry! After I got them installed with their drinks, snacks and recliners, my daughter said “now, this is the life!” šŸ˜€

We got some lunch in Burger King and then I noticed it had brightened up outside, so we went for a walk in Titanic Quarter. The girls love the little playground there and I like the fact there are views other than just swings and a slide šŸ™‚ It was freezing, but it felt really fresh and the sunlight was uplifting. I always appreciate returning home to the warmth after being out in particularly cold weather šŸ™‚ When we got home, the girls seemed energised and asked if they could go out on their scooters so they helped me post a parcel and tired themselves out šŸ™‚

We have had an empty fish tank for a while since our fish died. I’ve been reluctant to replace them as I doubt my ability to keep fish alive for long but I think the girls were trying to hint that they want a new pet because they put some other “creatures” in the tank šŸ™‚

On Sunday, I made a cake for my parents’ house. I meant to make a three ingredient Christmas cake again this year but didn’t get round to it, so I decided to make a January one instead šŸ™‚ It’s a dense fruit cake and you can have it plain or add whatever you like to it šŸ™‚ I put some Bailey’s in and iced it when it had cooled. We had it together with some cake at my parents’. We played Cluedo and a quiz game and it was nice to reach the stage where the girls could play too and appreciate them šŸ™‚

I’m trying to slow down this month because I find Christmas time so crazy and I always feel like I get overwhelmed if I pack too much into a week. So, I’m making more time for writing, resting and listening to podcasts while the girls are in school. I think it’s important to treat yourself and make time for quiet moments. I watched some inspiring YouTube videos today and made myself a slow French-type of lunch. (Like something I would have eaten when I lived in France :)) I just took some time to myself without having to leave the table fifteen times to attend to little people’s demands šŸ™‚

My prints are still available on Etsy but are now £10 including postage. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1097648352/daisies-art-print-theres-always-someone?ref=listings_manager_grid
