Orange Cake, Painting Pumpkins & Cosy Days

This week, I’ve been enjoying cosy times in the house a lot. I had a cold and it felt like a sign to slow down. Usually I always drive myself to achieve something, even just for myself, but I decided to let go and let the things I wanted to create flow when I felt up to doing them šŸ™‚

I made an orange and caraway seed cake. The girls don’t like it (which means more for me and for friends :)) I like it because it feels like an autumnal kind of flavour and it doesn’t require filling or icing or anything too demanding šŸ™‚

I met a friend for coffee in a local cafe I don’t usually go to. I like the rich colours in it and the Turkish feel to the decor. We got the two fancy window seats and got to have a chat and look out the window and drink coffee. Their raspberry and white chocolate scones are lovely too šŸ™‚

I decided to go shopping for art supplies as I was getting low on paint and acrylic paper. I found some cheap paints and canvases in the pound shop and The Works šŸ™‚ I decided to make a pumpkin picture for October šŸ™‚ I also ordered some prints of another one of my paintings because I’m thinking of attempting to sell a couple šŸ™‚

I took the girls to our favourite library after school one day. It was raining heavily and because it has a flat roof, you can hear the rain on it and it’s the cosiest place to be on that kind of day šŸ™‚ They had their Halloween displays up and I decided to get out their book of the month, American Dirt. It’s really hard to put down. The following day, I stayed at home while the girls were at school to get over the cold. There was torrential rain outside, so after walking to do the school run, I felt even more appreciative of the warmth inside. I turned on all my fairy lights, made hot chocolate with marshmallows, lit a gingerbread candle and read under a blanket on the sofa šŸ™‚

I also made some potato and leek soup. I love making soup and casseroles in the Autumn. I might have to get out my slow cooker too. I have some pumpkin I want to experiment with. I was thinking about making some pumpkin cookies, so I have to find time this weekend to try to make them šŸ™‚

I’ve been working on a new book that is a creepy psychological thriller type of book and hope to get it finished in the next couple of months too. I think it’s important to start lots of projects that fit with the season and encourage you through the colder darker days šŸ™‚
